Ginger
05 Pittsburgh
06 Ambition
07 Break It Up
08 Foreign Kicks
09 You Should Learn
10 Central AC

in my opinion, she is WAS's best album. she's definitely my favorite. I love her so much. I can honstly say that I love every song on her. she is such a good album.

it's a very short album, barely half an hour and only ten songs, but I think the length is perfect. obviously, since WAS is my very favoritest band of all time, I want them to have as much material as possible so that I can listen to nothing but them forever and ever and ever, but I really love the length of this album. maybe it's just because I have a short attention span, but I think the best songs are always short and to the point, and leave you wanting more. (I also really like repetition.) every song on Barbara leaves me wanting more.

I was really nervouse about Barbara, but I'm so glad that it was for naught. I was especially worried because they kept saying their main influence for this album was Weezer. =/ I do like a few Weezer songs, but...come on. (although I do totally think that Pound for Pound sounds like Weezer. I think my sister said she thinks that Keith even sounds like Rivers on it.) I think I read in an interview that they were trying to be like Weezer by making the songs short, to the point, and as simple as possible, but when I think of short and to the point, I don't think of Weezer, I think of The Futureheads first album! why couldn't you say you were trying to be like The Futureheads? The Futureheads > Weezer.

this album really suprised me. not in the same way Brain Thrust Mastery did; when I heard BTM, I was completely shocked. but it was in a very, very good way. I wasn't really sure about some of the songs I had heard live versions of, especially Pittsburgh, but I knew I couldn't really make a decision until I heard the album version. but I was so wrong about Piitsburgh! I love that song. I love every song on Barbara. Jack & Ginger surprised me the most. THAT SYNTH LINE. that guaranteed my love for that song, even if they leave it out when they play it live sometimes.

but yeah, I love the whole god damn thing. I was a little unsure about Foreign Kicks at first, but then Keith said "baby", I was like *swoon* *dies*.

Ambition is my favorite song on the album.
Break It Up is the one that's always stuck in my head. You Should Learn gets stuck in there a lot, too.
Central AC has the best guitar solo ever.
I Don't Bite will always be "Carol" to me.
if you're the night sky, act like the night sky.

so I assume that everyone has seen the LOST finale now

if you haven't, divert your eyes now.

I loved the finale, but I feel like I need to watch it again. when I watched it last night, I only cried once, I think during Charlie and Clarie's reunion (<3<3<3), but I think that if I watch it again I'll start balling. I can't believe it's over. I am way too attached to LOST.

first off:

FUCK YEAH RICHARD ALPERT IS ALIIIIVEEE!!!!!!!!!!

I. love. you.

I only had two real problems with the finale:
1) there were so many unanswered questions. what would have happened if Smoke Monster had left the Island? what would have happened if the Island had been destroyed? what is the Island, if it actually is it's own entity? who does the Island need to be protected from? why does it need protecting? what is really going to happen if someone who's not supposed to gets their hands on the light? what about Walt and Aaron, aren't they special? (seriously, no one cares if Walt doesn't look his age.) and about a billion other questions I can't remember. but really...those don't bother me. it's LOST. I stopped expecting answers halfway through season three.

2) I'm an Atheist. I don't really believe in anything. I don't believe in any omnipotent and/or omniscient being, karma, faith, astrology, reincarnation, heaven, hell, or an afterlife. so it kind of irks me a little that faith is the big winner. I don't mind faith, I don't mind religion, there are good stories based on faith and religion. but such blind faith? that's kind of scary.

I've pretty much preferred Jacob to MIB for the whole series, until I saw Across the Sea. of course, I felt extremely sympathetic towards Smokey after seeing that episode. all he wants to do is to leave, and it's not fair that he can't leave, and I hate that he can't leave, but fate is holding him. he is a villain because he kills everyone in his way, which makes him completely selfish. but I still want him to be able to leave, but with no repercussions.

and the alternate reality is just limbo/purgatory/bardos? it really irks me that that whole reality isn't real. I mean, it's "real", but it's not real. does that make sense? it's like when Harry spoke to Dumbledore in Deathly Hallows. sure, Dumbledore muttered some deep, philosophical mumbo-jumbo about how just because it's a dream, doesn't mean it's not real, but...Dumbledore is still gone. Jack Jr. is still just a figure of Jack's dead imagination. :( and I LOVED Jack Jr. like he was my own son. don't get me wrong, if they're going to an afterlife, I'm glad they're going happily, and together. I just wish that there lives could have been as fulfilling. but then there wouldn't have been a show. argh.

end.

PS: Jack Jr., your name may be "David", but I will always call you "Jack Jr.".

PPS: basically, I think that all of the resentments I hold against LOST and the finale are based on the fact that JACK JR. DOES NOT EXIST OUTSIDE OF LIMBO.

PPPS: and for the record, I never thought Sun OR Jin was the Kwon written on ceiling in the cave. I thought it was Sun AND Jin, because they are a team!

here are some articles about the finale that I enjoyed:
See You In Another Life, Brotha
LOST Finale Recap: Case Closed
Faith, science and smoke monsters: An atheist response to the Lost finale
LOST finale party
LOST is over. still has hair on his forehead. you can still call what he has there "fringe", but it is no longer "The Fringe"; the floppy hair in his face that attracted so many girls (including me) to not just Keith himself, but to his band, We Are Scientists.

now that The Fringe is gone, their music just doesn't have the same appeal as it used to. I used to swoon every time Keith's voice invaded my ear space; Chris's bass used to make me want to rip my clothes off and run through a forest; Andy/Adam/Tapper's drum beats used to send vibrations throughout my skin that made it impossible not to dance; but no more. now, I am only disgusted.

more importantly, Keith is just not the man he used to be. with The Fringe, Keith was a 19-yr old boy who just wanted to sing to you and get inside your pants will chugging a bottle of Jack 'n Ginger (lullz). but now, now that The Fringe is gone, his true self is revealed: he's nothing but a 32-yr old alcoholic who wants to molest you. yes, he wants to touch you inappropriately. and the fact that most of us are significantly younger than him makes it that much worse. The Fringe attracts a very young crowd, and Keith used that to his advantage. because he's nothing but a dirty, old man.

now that I have shed light on Keith's dirty little secret, he probably won't let me live for much longer. I'm just glad to have gotten the truth out there. so please, everyone, remember: DIRTY. OLD. MAN.
Cthulhu...kah thu lah? suh thoo luh?

I've heard that word pronounced so many different ways tonight and I am very tired and I can't even remember how I originally pronounced it.

today I had a good day at school. I actually had a client(s). TWO. OMFG. I KNOW.

and then my mommy picked me up at the MAX station on her way home from work. then we went home and picked up my sister. then we went to her boyfriend's house. her boyfriend's name is Dave. he's in a band called Rubella Grave.

at his house were four people: him, his son, Hunter, his friend, Jay, and his friend, Aaron. we played that Cthulhu RPG thing. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. seriously, it was. and it was EVEN FUNNIER because it was exactly like LOST.

Dave was the narrator. I was a doctor named John Smith. (OMG YOU WILL NEVER GUESS WHO INSPIRED ME.) I don't remember what Robin was, but her name was Cassandra. Hunter was a soldier on leave named Ian. my mom was a punk named...something weird. I couldn't remember it. Aaron was named Sigmund. Jay was an author named John, so we called him Johnny.

we were in a plane crash on an ISLAND. we all kept making Lost references, but Dave's never seen Lost so he just thought we were stupid. so he changed it from an island to a peninsula.

and then I was the first person to wake up from the crash, cuz I'm the doctor, der.

and we kept making Lost references and he said he was going to punish the next person to do so. so we kept making Lost references.

we started at 7:30pm and didn't stop till 12:30am. we still haven't finished. I think the plan is to meet back up the Sunday after next.

but yeah, the moral of the story? pick the grenades. everyone else will be like "OH NOES THE 'DOCTOR' HAS GRENADES HE'S GONNA ESSPLODE US!!" but when those Nazi zombies are coming in by the tens, you will not be sorry. and guns are just so boring anyway.

having grenades+being the doctor automatically makes you the leader.

being the doctor also gives you the right to throw injured people in front of the mutant wolf things so you can run away.

we have the best Taco Tuesday EVER

I just saw Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, Julian Perretta, Semi Precious Weapons, and Ladyhawke in that order. it was the Perez Hilton tour. I don't care about Perez Hilton. I do care about Ladyhawke and NPSH, though. SO I WENT.

I got to the venue at 6pm. WITH A DOLL OF LADYHAWKE/PIP BROWN. it is super tiny. I wish I had taken a picture of it. doors were at 7pm, so I had a good, cold, lonely hour to wait. I was the only one in line for maybe 30 minutes. I did see all of NPSH walk back from dinner, though. I waved, and Liam was the only one to see me. he waved back. *dork* Shaun walked by a few times. I thought he looked lost, but I guess he wasn't.

about 10 minutes before doors, there was a very, very short line. me, a group of five, then another group of five. then these two girls, who I am going to guess were no older than 16, got in line, except they didn't go to the end of the line. they went to the opposite side of the door that I was on, TRYING TO CUT ME. well, joke's on them. the door opened on their side, blocking them from getting in. I WAS FIRST IN. I WIN. and I got the spot front & center. WIN.

when I got to the stage, all of NPSH were on-stage, soundchecking. Liam said to me "first person in line!" and I was like "yeah!" and it was awkward. yay. then Shaun was like "first in line!" and I was like "yeah!" annd it was awkwarrrrd. then he thanked me for coming, I thanked him for playing, and I told him that NPSH and Ladyhawke were two of my favorite bands. yay.

NPSH were so fucking amazing. they played these songs:

Bedroom Costume
Holding Hands in the Shower
Sophisticated Side Ponytail
Slow Motion Tag Team
Beard Lust
Me+Yr Daughter
Iceage Babeland

when they first came on, a Shaun and Luke were wearing black plastic hangers. near the end of the show, shaun started breaking his and throwing them into the crowd. I am one broken hanger richer.

while NPSH were on-stage, Shaun and David were telling us to all meet back at the Wonder Ballroom (where the show was held) next Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. he then taped the audience (actually, all he got was the ceiling) saying "WE HAVE THE BEST TACO TUESDAY EVER" as part of a project they're working on. I think it was that they're trying to create a conversation between every city that they're visiting this tour, so they video tape each one saying something.

during the chorus of "Sophisticated Side Ponytail", Claire knelt down in front of me and sang to meeee. it was beautiful, we're soulmates. Luke totally sang to me during the chorus of "Me+Yr Daughter". it was hilarious, we're soulmates. during the third verse in "Beard Lust", David held the microphone up to me for the scream. I screamed as loud as I could, but I couldn't hear myself. but going by the look he gave me afterward, I definitely screamed loud enough. IT WAS AWESOME. WE ARE SOULMATES.

those two stupid girls weaseled their way to the front for Julian Perretta. I guess they were there solely for him. I didn't know he was British until he came on-stage and started speaking in a British accent, which made his act slightly better. one of his songs, "Feel Better", remined me of the B*witched song, "C'est La Vie" or whatever it's called.

and I didn't really like Semi Precious Weapons. maybe I'm a prude or something. I don't know how else to describe them except for "cock rock", and I do not liek that kind of music. I like my lyrics more self-deprecating.

and then Ladyhawke!! I LOVE HER. as Abby said in her blog, her guitarist was adorable, and his glasses were freaking awesome. I wanted to try them on. I wonder if his prescription is stronger than mine.

Ladyhawke was amazing, though she isn't really as energetic as NPSH. with NPSH, it was more like their was a 24/7 dance party on-stage. Ladyhawke was more like watching someone just play music. does that sound bad? because it wasn't. she was really sweet, too. she said that Portland and been the warmest audience so far. yay for Portland!

Pip is super adorable. people kept telling her she was hot and asking if she had a boyfriend, but she just laughed every time.

I waited around after the show to try and meet NPSH and Pip, but I missed NPSH. I wanted to talk to them about LOST (I bet the Ben mentioned in "Sophisticated Side Ponytail" is Ben Linus) and to ask about the competition they had a while ago. but I met Pip! she was lovely. I gave her Pipdoll and she said it was awesome. I love their music and them as people. I love everything they do. I'm sure I've even bent my standards around to match them. it's probably unhealthy. but I don't care, because I LOVE THEM.

it's probably kind of crazy that I actually feel bad if I skip past a WAS song. if I do it a lot and notice, I honestly do start to feel a little guilty. it makes me second guess myself and my obsession with this band.

I know it's ludicrous to second guess myself with this band, though. I go through the same phase every couple of months where I find a band that isn't WAS and listen to them constantly, just non-stop for a month or so. then I hear a WAS song, probably Altered Beast or New Me, and my love is rekindled, and I spend months listening to WAS, non-stop.

this time my "band that isn't WAS" is MUSE. I don't know if it's supposed to be capitalized or not, I don't think it stands for anything. but on albums and things it's always written in all caps, so I like to write it the same. MUSE are completely different then the other bands. they're the first band that have made feel like maybe I won't go back to WAS. what if that happened? what if WAS were replaced?

it's redonkulous, though, right? to think that? yeah, probably.

and I have been listening to MUSE for longer than WAS. they were my favorite band when I was 14/15, until I found out about Franz Ferdinand and that whole genre. MUSE were my first favorite band who wasn't Spice Girls or Blink 182.

but writing this out...I don't feel worried anymore. because honestly I was a bit worried. I think I'll go back to WAS soon.

end.

Converse & Hot Topic

I don't like either of 'em for the same reason.

some people, and I only mean SOME, and by some I mean PROBABLY NOT YOU, wear converse for the same reason that they shop at Hot Topic. both are considered "cool" and "non-comformist", when in reality, they are 100% conformist. who doesn't have a pair of effing Converse or an Edward Cullen doll-I-mean-action-figure from Hot Topic? wheeeeee! I love it, but I can't stop playing with it and I'm not supposed to till it heals!! GAH.

the day AFTER I did that, me and my sister went to see the sixth Harry Potter movie, HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE!!!

IT WAS SO AWESOME!!!!!

it was the best Harry Potter movie yet. I cried when Dumbledore died, which surprised me. I cried when he died in the book, (I cry at everything in the books. remember when Neville got those extra 10 points for Gryffindor for sticking up to his friends? I cried.) but I haven't cried at any of the movies yet. it was...aah. I don't want to think about that scene.

Michael Gambon was OK as Dumbledore in this movie. I think he's made a pretty awful Dumbledore so far, he's way too angry and mean. Dumbledore is never mean. at the beginning of the movie I thought he was being way too bossy, but then I got over it and decided to give him a chance.

Lavender Brown was hilarious. I think she was a lot more desperate in the movie then the book, but I did not mind that change.

I don't like movie-Seamus Finnigan.

Neville/Eddie Argos was barely in it. :(

Felix Felicis. Harry didn't chug the whole thing down when he wanted to get Slughorn's memory in the book! he took a TINY sip, then gave the rest to Dumbledore's Army (but I can't remember if he gave it to them in HBP or DH).

I didn't like how they did Harry and Ginny's relationship. they didn't get any time together. :( and how she showed him where to hide the Potions book in the Room of Requirement...I did not approve. bad change.

and they didn't mention that Harry inherited the #12 Grimmauld Place from Sirius! AND THERE WASN'T ANY KREACHER.

but, umm...I actually did love it.

I LOOOOOOVED the scene where Harry and Dumbledore went to get the Horcrux. MAGNIFICENT. what I loved the most was when Harry was looking into the water, and everyone in the theater KNEW that a hand was going to come up from the water and grab him, we were ALL anticipating it, just sitting there for however long it was, but when it happened, every single person jumped out of their seat. oooooh and the fire. I knew that would be sweet, and it was. I just loved that scene so much. Michael Gambon played it perfectly.

Malfoy, I love you. I loved Malfoy's everything in the movie. but I wanted Sectumsempra to be gorier. and for him to be talking to Myrtle instead of just alone in the bathroom! I miss Myrtle.

the actor who played teenage Tom Riddle...too fucking perfect. I looked up pictures of him before I saw them movie and thought he wasn't handsome enough, but he was so perfect! I loved that kid. oh, and little kid Tom Riddle was pretty awesome.

I'm disappointed that they left all of Voldemort's memories out. boo.

but aaah it was so good. I loved it.

end.

biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirthday

it's my birthday on Tuesday yayyyyyy.

I have a summer birthday, so I've never been at school on my birthday. I got 100% on the written, and 85% on the practical. for the practical, we had to do a 90 degree haircut. THAT IS MY LEAST FAVORITE HAIRCUT. I HATE IT. but I passed. whoop whoop.

I started Hair Design on Tuesday. and let me tell you something, internet. let me tell you it...now:

in Hair Design, guess who I am? I am the person WHO HAS BEEN IN SCHOOL THE LONGEST. Hair Design is my last class, and I am the only person who will leave back class after Hair Design. I am the Senior. I should know the most. I should be the most confident and awesome and I should not be the last person to finish anymore. BUT I AM. surprise, surprise.

anyhoo.

I love and hate beauty school. I love backclass. I love [most] of the people in my class. even the person I thought I'd hate the most because of her strong desire to shout "YO, ADRIAAAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!" at me is turning out to be one of my favorite people at that school.

but I'm kind of uncomfortable a lot of the time. people there seem to be really religious. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the only person there who doesn't believe in any kind of higher power or an afterlife. when people start pulling out their Bibles and try to remember exactly how many half-siblings Jesus had, I just want to shout "I'm an Athiest!" but I don't think anyone even knows what that word means. and people keep questioning my vegetarianism. they don't understand how I can choose not to eat meat, or why I would feel guilty for eating something that was once an actual living thing. these things are pretty annoying, but I think the good parts overshadow the bad.

and then there's actually doing hair. ON REAL PEOPLE. that is terrifying. when I first greet the client, it's OK, but then I have to start talking to them about what they want, and I feel completely terrified and don't know what to do. but once I start actually doing it, usually I calm down and realize that I kind of know what to do. sort of.

but now I'm tired of sitting here, so I'm going to end this. I write long blogs. I can't believe my dad thinks I'm laconic.

end.

summer reading

right now, I am reading The Golden Compass. it's a really good book, and I'm really into it. I'm GOING to finish it this week. I have to. I have other books I need to read! and I have to figure out if I should read all of His Dark Materials before moving on to another book on my list...

I am going to re-read the Harry Potter series before the sixth movie comes out. I know I'll only need a week to read them (I only need one day per book), so I'm not worried about getting those finished. well, I kind of am. because I'm super lazy.

next, I have to read Infinite Jest, by David Foster Wallace. it's a book that I've been meaning to read for a while (ever since Keith Murray mentioned it in a few interviews), but have never gotten around to. there's a project going on over the summer to read this book that has been put together by some people on the internets, and I am going to participate and FINALLY read it. you should, too (so I have someone to discuss the book with).

I like reading!

end.

we're coming to you

I want to see We Are Scientists again. confirmed that I can stay with her during the week while I go to school. I feel bad because Larae was excited about using the car pool lane and getting to school faster. but maybe I'll go home on Sundays, stay till Tuesday, we can carpool to school on Tuesdays, then I can go to my grandma's after school and stay the rest of the week. I don't know.

anyhoo.

I was going to say something else but now I can't remember what it was.

end.

moving...somewhere

I'm moving home on Sunday.

my mom said I would have to share a room with my sister if I wanted to move back, because me little brother took over my room. I thought she meant her room, the biggest room in the apartment. even though it's the biggest, it would still be pretty uncomfortable. she actually meant my sister's room, which is barely big enough for my sister and her crap.

this bites.

my mom wants me to think about moving in with my grandma...I don't know about that.

my [maternal] grandparents lives in Portland. I've been going to my their house every Wednesday for dinner since I started school. I take the MAX from Lloyd Center, which is a short walk from my school, to a stop near my grandma's house, then she picks me up and takes me to her house. she knows how much I dislike living with my dad and step-mom, and has offered to let me stay there a few times. she would drive me to the MAX station every morning and pick me up after school.

I wouldn't mind living with my grandma and grandpa. I love my grandparents, I love spending time with them, and I know it would make them happy to have the company and to know that they're helping me out. I know my grandma wants to help me as much as she can, but I'm afraid she would be offering me help even if she couldn't afford to (and I don't just mean financially). I want to accept their help, but I don't want to take advantage of them.

and plus, THEY DON'T HAVE INTERNET.

scary thought, isn't it?

what would the internet do without me?

haircuts & poop

started haircutting class yesterday. I got help from a girl named McKenzie and another named Alyssa (no one ever pronounces her name right, so she makes a big deal about it; it's Ah-lee-sah). McKenzie helped me apply the relaxer, and Alyssa flat ironed her hair afterward. I got my first tip today. I got $1! woohoo. I wasn't even expecting a tip.

I hate relaxers.

I kind of suck at them (her hair looked good though, don't worry). I'm too slow. (I'll explain what "back classes" and "on the floor" mean later.) but barbering is I think just hair cutting and possibly styling. probably not styling. no chemical services in barbering.

NAILS
pretty self-explanatory. pedicures, manicures. ya know. I really don't want to touch people's feet, so I'm not studying this.

ESTHETICS
I don't know much about Esthetics. I think it's make-up, facials, that kind of stuff. anything that effects the skin. I think. I don't want to rub people's faces, and I suck with make-up, so...yeah.

on to the schedule. so, you can be a day student or a night student. I'm a day student. these are their schedules:

DAY STUDENTS
8:30am-4:30pm, Tuesday-Saturday

NIGHT STUDENTS
5:30pm -10:30pm, Monday-Friday

I am a day student because it takes me two buses and a half hour to get home, and I DO NOT want to be walking around my dad's neighborhood that late at night for five nights a week. but if I had a car/license/auto insurance, I sure as heck would be night.

you have to get there before 8:45am, or else they will kill you. if you have a good excuse and call saying you're going to be late, then it's OK. if you don't call and you don't show up (or show up after 9:00am) then I think they give you three days of in-school suspension. but if you have three No Call/No Shows (that's what the school calls 'em) then you are kicked out and you can never come back.

now on to back classes! back classes are just the classes you have to take. I don't know why they're called "back classes" and not just "classes". they're from 10:30am to 4:30pm. the back classes I as a hair student have to take are perming (finished!), coloring (taking it now), cutting (that one's next), and hair design (that one's last. basically it's just blow-drying and styling...) from 9:00am to 10:00am, we have theory classes, like Life Skills and Career Development and Oregon Law and a bunch of other stuff. so far I've only taken Life Skills.

so, we have theory classes on Tuesday-Thursday, and we just get to sit around for an hour on Fridays till class starts. but on Saturdays, EVERYONE is on the floor.

now I'll tell you what "on the floor" means:
the only real way to learn how to do hair is to actually do it. every beauty school is an actual salon, but with really cheap prices. "on the floor" just means you're out there, doing someone's hair. OR you're in dispense. "in dispense" means you're in the dispensary, filling up containers, sweeping, collecting dirty things, getting things for other people, and washing towels (YOU WASH A LOT OF TOWELS IN DISPENSE), all for the students who actually get to do hair.

each class is three weeks long, and for your very first two Saturdays, you are in dispense. but on your third Saturday (if you have passed your class) you can start doing people's hair! you can only provide the services that you passed the class of. so I can give people curly perms, relaxers, and Jheri curls. but I didn't have any clients last Saturday. (well, I did have a touch-up relaxer, but they never showed up. sadface.) hopefully I will get some tomorrow!

so, after you're all finished with back classes, you are on the floor all week, doing all the services you can. you have to have a certain number of hours to graduate. (you clock in and out every day, even for lunches and breaks, just like at a real job!) I'm not sure how many, but it's different in every state, and Oregon has the highest requirement out of all the states. and in school, we're divided into Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior. you're grade level is determined by how many hours you have. but pretty much once you finish back classes, you become a Sophomore. and at each grade level are harder and harder tests. I'm going to have to start recruiting people to be models for my testing!

so, uuh...I think that's all. I should be finished with school next May. eep.

and now I will tell you what a Jheri curl is, because I never actually knew: it's when a person with really curly hair reforms their curls so that they're bigger and looser and prettier. woohoo!

it's too bad

I didn't start this in April for BEDA.

#nerdfighter

...oh, wait, this isn't Twitter, is it?
